Six lifting platforms under the steel windows of the converted mill floor, barbells racked and waiting
The floor, 06:00. Pollard Street.
  • Coached

Every session is programmed and coached. Sixty minutes, five athletes, one coach who knows your numbers. Nobody wanders the floor wondering what to do next.

  • Capped

Membership stops at three hundred so the platforms never queue. We would rather run a waitlist than water the room down.

  • Counted

Every lift goes in the log. Twelve-week blocks, testing on week thirteen. If the numbers moved, the plan stays. If they did not, the plan changes.

60-min sessions · 12-week blocks · Testing week 13 · Max 5 per coach

  • Strength 101

Twelve weeks. Squat, press, hinge, pull, carry. You leave with technique that holds under load and a training log you actually understand.

The standard.

Three rules that get logged. The tape on the wall is manners.

  1. Show up.

Three sessions a week, minimum. Attendance is the only number you fully control, so it is the first one we track.

  2. Log every lift.

The book does not flatter anyone. Numbers go up or they do not, and both results are useful.

  3. Load the bar.

Ego stays at the door. The weight still goes on, one plate at a time, until the log says otherwise.

  • 505kg

    Best competition total, 76kg class

    Dana Okafor

    Head coach

Eleven years coaching powerlifting. Still annoyed about one red light in 2019.

  • 400

    First deadlifts taught, nobody hurt

    Pete Lawless

    Strength 101

He counts that the way the logbook counts everything else. Everyone starts on an empty bar with him.

  • 6:38

Her own 2k. She will ask about yours

    Mairead Quinn

    Engine

Former rower. Treats your erg time as a character reference and your pacing plan as a moral question.

  • 170kg

Clean and jerk at 89kg bodyweight

    Viktor Hale

    Barbell Club

Says less than the bar does, which is the point.

Every coach lifts. Every coach logs. Same rules as you.

The logbook

Write itdown.

  • A worn logbook open on a chalk-dusted bench with a pencil across it, hard window light, mill brick behind

    12.06.26

Log every lift. The number is the only opinion here.

How you felt about the session is not data. The bar does not care, and neither does the logbook.

  • A row of empty lifting platforms in the dark mill, one lit by a single overhead lamp, chalk hanging in the air

    24.04.26

We cap the club at three hundred and keep a waitlist

A room with a cap does not need everybody. It needs the forty-second name on the list to be the right one.

  • A loaded barbell abandoned mid-platform under one hard shaft of light, chalk dust hanging, nobody there

    09.02.26

Week thirteen, and the numbers did not move

This is the conversation most gyms avoid. We have it on the day it is due, with the logbook open.

The cap isthe point.

Three hundred members. Not one more. When someone leaves, the next name on the list gets a call, a floor tour, and two trial sessions. Most people wait about six weeks. The ones who stay tend to stay for years.

Chalked hands closing around the knurling of a barbell, dust drifting through the light

Two sessions.No card.

Everyone on the list gets two trial sessions before they are asked for a penny. A coach takes the floor with you, writes down what you lift, and tells you the truth about it. Tell us the hour that suits you. When your name comes up, that is the slot we ring about, and the coach is matched to the goal.
